NYPD officers Mike Dowd and Kenny Eurell knew there were two ways to get rich quick in Brooklyn's Lower East Side. You either became drug dealers, or you robbed drug dealers. They decided to do both.

Dowd and Eurell ran the most powerful gang in New York's dangerous 75th Precinct, the crack cocaine capitol of 1980s America. These "Cocaine Cops" formed a lucrative alliance with Adam Diaz, the kingpin of an ever-expanding Dominican drug cartel. Soon Mike and Ken were buying fancy cars no cop could afford, and treating their wives to levels of luxury not associated with a patrol officer's salary.

They were daring, dangerous and untouchable; then the biggest police scandal in New York history exploded into the headlines with the arrest of Mike, Ken, and their fellow crooked cops. Released on bail, Mike offered Ken a long shot at escape to Central America; a bizarre plan involving robbery, kidnapping, and murder, forcing Ken to choose between two forms of betrayal.

When you lie, you steal the truth. Once you have stolen the truth, you can justify stealing anything from anybody. Adapted from Ken Eurell's shocking personal memoir, plus hundreds of hours of exclusive interviews with the major players, including former international drug lord Adam Diaz, and Dori Eurell, revealing the truth behind what you won't see in the hit documentary The Seven Five.

Betrayal in Blue The Shocking Memoir of the Scandal That Rocked the NYPD (Audible Audio Edition) Burl Barer Frank C Girardot Jr Ken Eurell Kevin Pierce WildBlue Press Books

Powerful tale of not only true crime but true love as well. The authors tell us what it was like to be a police officer in the crime ridden 80s. Facing temptations ranging from alcohol and loose female cops to mounds of drugs and dirty money available for the taking.
Bless his wife for standing by her man through the craziness of it all and having the wherewithal to get outstanding legal representation to keep their family together.
I remembered reading about some of this in the papers but never realized the extent of the corruption. I'd recommend this book to any fan of law enforcement or true crime aficionados.

Betrayal in Blue The Shocking Memoir of the Scandal That Rocked the NYPD (Audible Audio Edition) Burl Barer Frank C Girardot Jr Ken Eurell Kevin Pierce WildBlue Press Books Reviews

This is a compelling book about police corruption in the seven five precinct in Brooklyn, NY. I had a hard time putting it down after starting it. I saw the documentary “The Seven Five” and had to hear the whole story. This book clears up a lot, especially timelines that are unclear in the documentary.

After more insight into the personal lives of these cops, it makes me wonder what a power house they could have been had they followed a straighter path. Both partners are extremely intelligent and would have been amazing. But to err is human, as this book explains.
Betrayal In Blue is a no-nonsense, go-for-the-jugular account of NYPD's 75th Precinct in the late eighties. In a near first-person style, it details the war-like conditions of a five square mile precinct which lured a group of officers into schemes of corruption which were unparalleled in the annals of law enforcement. For those who are interested in the Thin Blue Line, it is a riveting, must-read book. Two thumbs up from a retired old-school police officer.
This book reads like a Martin Scorsese mob thriller. More detailed than the documentary. A real page turner, refreshingly honest. No excuses. This book Is just aching for a Hollywood treatment. I couldn't believe how far down these cops sank. Just when you think it could not get any worse, it does. And then the spiral begins. Nothing like a good "Good Cop/Bad" Cop book, where the one you are rooting for finds redemption.
"Betrayal..." is an unflinching peek into a time period of police corruption with glimpses of goose bump inducing events. There really are no winners in this story, but that doesn't make it any less important and almost unbelievable, if it wasn't so true!
Excellent and captivating true story about police corruption during the 80's. Burl Barer along with Kenny Eurrell, one of the officers involved, paint a complete picture that illustrates how easy it was for the officers to get away with their crimes for so long, how the upper echelons of NYPD turned blind eyes and then when confronted made minor efforts, and the broken system that perpetuated the cycle. This book takes you on the ride with a front row seat.
This is the best true crime book I have read so far. It was the most gripping because of the the many people that were involved with sins of corruption, sins of betrayal of loved ones, and sins of omission. Who could a person trust? Although I have been personally far removed from this subculture of drugs and easy money, I can see how some career cops could have been tempted to lie and steal by using their direct access to drugs and cash on the job, or could have been tempted to fall into a state of passive despair and low morale. This true story had a satisfying resolution with the emotionally excruciating betrayal of a former partner-in-crime "friend" decided upon by one who was in deep trouble himself, in order to prevent further harm and to save a life.
This was an excellent book...much more then was covered in the documentary...very open and honest and held nothing back...I was a former federal agent and fully understand how these things can happen...great read!!!
