I must have looked at the reviews and the plot summary for months and months before I finally bought it. (I try to keep myself on a Kindle-buying budget, but I don't always succeed). I look for great plot premises, and physical and emotional challenges in the main characters. This book has them all. This is a fabulous book! I loved the heroine. MacKay Harrington and Pup Jennings are two of the most fun and endearing characters I've met in a book recently. I'm a self-professed story snarfer.
I just loved the premise, and the more I got into this book, the more I loved it! The most endearing thing to me is Pup being a total klutz when she's not undercover. It endears her to MacKay, who owes her his life. They spent three weeks together while he recuperates from being shot by her brother, who he had to kill.
I loved everything about this book. I can't say enough about it! Read it. You don't need to read any of the other books in the series, just this one.

as advertised
It was a good book but a tad too long for my taste. Just when I thought it was coming to a conclusion, the direction changed. I liked the main characters and watching Callie grow in The Lord.
This is one of my absolute favorite books! It's a sweet, Christian romance with many unexpected twists and turns. The characters are loveable and well-developed, the plot is riveting, and the gospel is clear without being "preachy".
It seems like it took me FOREVER to read this book! It was really pretty boring through most of the book. I didn't really care for the story line, but kept with the story since it was part of a series. I'll tell you that I'll probably never read this book again...
So Callie (or Pup - HATE THAT NAME) posed as a man in the civil war and was so convincing that she worked for the treasury department as an undercover agent. As her own self, she's clumsy and at some points, the hero of the story puts a BIB on her!!! This story was on the edge of ridiculous, but that's just me...
Even the Epilogue wasn't all that interesting - a mom dressing up as a man to come take a tooth...just didn't really appeal to me...
So the series starts out with two families. They've basically dropped off the face of the earth. I don't know that they were even mentioned in this third book. Travis, I believe, made it through all three books. This is the worst Lori Wick series I've read! The first book was the best, then the second was okay...I'm really hoping the last book is great though I'm not sure how it relates to any of the Rocky Mountain characters yet...
I would really like to read more about the original families.
If you are like me and not enjoying this series as much as the others, stick with "The Californians" or "A Place Call Home." They are GREAT!
I don't mean to bash this author - she's great. One thing I really like about all her books are the devotionals you get from reading them. This book also had devotionals, and since I mainly read it on my while taking my daily walks, it was refreshing to have a devotional while walking!
Govern Hackett shows up at Pup Jenning's cabin in the mountains demanding money, but he is followed by McKay Harrington.a Treasury agent. After a violent shoot out Pup buries Govern and nurses McKay back to health. Pup is a woman of few words and McKay leaves , feeling sorry for her, believing she is half witted.
Book 3 in Lori Wick's Rocky Mountain Memory series is a good story with likeable characters. I love watching Pup at work. So just settle back and enjoy a good clean story.
Who would have thought that the young lady who lived deep in the mountains away from everyone and liked her private life .
A young lady who's brothers where wanted by the law. Lived a secret life as someone else.
But a law man who is after her brother comes into her life.
Her one brother is killed at her home and the law man is seriously injured.
Can she save the man who invaded her private life and killed her brother ?
Loved the story as well as the ending.
I think this author has to decide whether she is going to write a romantic fiction or a Bible study. Too many characters, too many situations, too many locations interrupted by scripture discourse.
I do Bible study all the time....this could have been a sweet romance but it wasn't even ended properly but jumped to a bunch of children. Ugh
