Enthralled Paranormal Diversions Melissa Marr Kelley Armstrong Books

I really, really loved this book!!!! A lot of the short stories I fell in love with the characters. I am hoping that I get to see them down the road.

Giovanni's Farewell-Ravenna and Cairo go on a trip. Something is going on with Cairo that Ravenna can't figure out. When he tries to tell her, she pushes him away. All of a sudden, something happens to Ravenna that makes her a believer. There is something very special about these twins, and the best thing about it, is that they are in it together. This is a very good ghost story.

Scenic Route-Margie and Sally are hiding out in a cabin. These two sisters are hiding out from zombies. They also have to hide from people trying to break in and still there stuff. There is also a possible love interest in this story. I was very shocked with what happened

Red Run-This is another ghost story that I loved. I fell in love with Tommy!! People end of dead on Red Run. Edie's brother was even killed. Rumor has it that a ghost is doing the killing. Fabulous story!!!!

Things about Love-This story goes along with the book AS You Wish. I was so happy to get to Lawrence again. I wanted to know what happened to him. Viola, a jinn, shows up to learn about love. She believes that with a single kiss, she will learn all she needs to know. This story was so sweet and romantic.

Niederwald-This is set in the world of her Soul Screamer series. Emma and Sabine are on a road trip for a project, or at least that was what Emma thought. Of course, Sabine has her own agenda. She goes to Niederwald to see an oracle, then gets her and Emma in mess with the harpies. Love this series!!!!

Merely Mortal-This is set in the world of the Wicked Lovely series. We get to see Keenan and Donia take a vacation. It was so hilarious watching Keenan as a human. Poor Donia worries about him in this week state as she calls it.

Facing Facts-This is set in the world of her Darkest Powers series. OMG!!! This is one of my favorite series!!!! I was so happy to get to see Derek and Chloe again. And boy, Derek still hasn't changed. He still has lip.

Let's Get this Undead Show on the Road-I loved this story. Christian is the only vampire in his band. I felt really bad for Christian, but I really liked the ending. This was a great vampire story.

Bridge-Oh wow. I cried through the whole first book, and now I cried through the whole novella. I just love Logan!!! I love all the characters in this series. I feel for them. It is as if I am there. Mickey tore me to pieces in this story. I was so glad to get to see more of him.

Skin Contact-This is set in the world of the Body Finder series. I got too see a little of Rafe's background in this story, and what he is actually capable of. It was so sad. I was drawn to him even more by this story. Can't wait to read The Last Echo.

Leaving-I loved this story!!!!! Sora's father disappeared and she also became an untouchable. She kept her distance from everyone for a long time, because she knew that she would be leaving too. Elio is the only reason she is second guessing herself now. I hope I get to see more of this story down the road. Loved it!!!!

At the Late Night, Double Feature, Picture Show-This story was hilarious!!! I just loved it!!! I cracked up on the vampires especially when they started singing and dancing. I really liked Jane. Her family are supernatural hunters. She was sick of them always using her as bait. She wanted to do more so she snuck off and got into a lot of trouble.

IV League-This was another good vampire story. It's about a vampire named Wrennie who tries to get into an IV League school. The interview was so funny!!!

Gargouille-Loved, loved, loved, this story. Etienne...sigh. This gargoyle story was amazing, and the love story was beautiful. Giselle was captured, and her wings were cut off, When that happens, they become completely human forgetting everything but their name. It was simply beautiful.

The Third Kind-I am hoping to see more of this story down the road. It started off so good, but it kinda left with a cliffhanger. I want more!!! Kissy and Jess take off in the middle of the Night to go to San Antonio. Whenever Kissy gets these pulses, the sisters go do what Kissy feels that they have to do. Then it turns out, Jess is not who she thought she was. I loved this angel story. This needs to be made into a book!!!

Automatic-This story was set in the world of the Morganville series. This is also another of my favorite series. Watching Michael with the blood machine was hilarious. I can't wait to read the next book in the Morganville series!!!!

Great book!!!!! I recommend to all!!!!

Enthralled Paranormal Diversions Melissa Marr Kelley Armstrong Books Reviews

WARNING
Spoilers for anyone who hasn't read Darkest Mercy by Melissa Marr.

Rating 4/5

Every anthology has a theme, usually. Vampires, time travel, dystopia, etc. At first glance, it seems like just a YA urban fantasy anthology. But once one reads the back cover, you will discover that the theme is journeying. Spirtual, literal, you name it, it's in there. It put me off for a millisecond, but as soon I opened the cover, I was sucked in.

Giovanni's Farewell by Claudia Gray
A girl and her brother on a class trip to Italy discover they may be more than they thought they were after meeting a mysterious local. A little slow, maybe, but overall a neat tale. Certainly a story that will stand on its own, I don't see it spawning into a whole series. 3/5

Scenic Route by Carrie Ryan
Two sisters living peacefully in the mountains just trying to survive have their lives rudely interrupted by an unexpected visitor. As this obviously dealt with the presence of zombies, I assume it takes place in the same universe as The Forest Of Hands And Teeth. I liked this one, I have no idea why I haven't read the series yet. 4/5

Red Run by Kami Garcia
The ghost of Red Run killed Edie's brother, and now she wants revenge. Interesting twist, one I actually didn't totally see coming! Totally, is the key word, though, as once Edie got a certain somebody in the car, I got a bit of an inkling of what might happen. I've read Beautiful Creatures, but never anything Garcia or Stohl have done on their own. This wasn't half bad. 3/5

Things About Love by Jackson Pearce
Lawrence's best friend Viola fell in love with a genie, and now he's paying the price for it by being constantly "guarded" by them. Juliet, his newest guard and the Arthur Weasley of genies, decides that while guarding, she is going to try and underrstand love, something that eludes her kind. Lawrence, a down on his luck LGBT character, is so relatable it's hard not to like him, and Juliet's aloofness is endearing. Plus, genies? How can I say no? 5/5

Niederwald by Rachel Vincent
Sabine, the anti-hero featured in some other short stories by Vincent, as well as the Soul Screamers series, has brought a human friend of hers to a place that borders between human and paranomal to fetch something dear to her, but may lose something dear in the process. I fell in love with the character of Sabine in the Kiss Me Deadly anthology, and can't help rooting for her to get Nash back (no spoilers please! I haven't started the full series yet.) This had everything you could want; snark, suspense, and the kind of creatures that linger in the dark corners of your dreams. 5/5

Merely Mortal by Melissa Marr
Keenan, the previous Summer King and one of the two main love interests in the Wicked Lovely universe, now finds himself mortal with an immortal faery love, Donia, Queen of the Winter Court, and must convince her to let him attempt to become immortal again. And what better way than a little vacation? This takes place between the last chapter and the epilogue of Darkest Mercy, in which Keenan pleads with Donia to let him try to get winter's chill back into his body by the same means by which Winter Girls are made. I have been dying to read more from this series since it ended, this made me giddy as a lamb. 5/5

Facing Facts by Kelley Armstrong.
To be honest, I didn't get the full gist of this one, because trying to read it bored me. That is not to say I don't like Kelley Armstrong, because I do. But I am a bit sick of reading short stories from her that only take place in whatever her current ongoing series is (in this case, Darkness Rising.) I found it boring, and therefore couldn't finish. 2/5

Let's Get This Undead Show On The Road by Sarah Rees Brennan
Christian, the vampiric poster boy of boy band 4 The One (who was first introduced to us in the anthology The Eternal Kiss), just can't catch a break, whether it's with his family, his own bandmates, or other vampires. And now, to top it off, the band have been kidnapped. What else could go wrong? I adore Christian, he's the perfect brooding vampire, but not in the "sparkly" way. I hope that Miss Brennan will continue to write about Christian, perhaps even start a series about him! 5/5

Bridge by Jeri-Smith Ready
Logan is a ghost in a world of people who either can't see him or chose to ignore him, and he's got something important to say. Normally, stories written in prose bother me, because I read them in this weird, disjointed voice in my head. Or they, y'know, suck *ahem Kristin Cast ahem*. But this was beautiful, you really feel the honest sorrow that seeps out of every character. 4/5

Skin Contact by Kimberly Derting
Rafe doesn't know which to be more upset about; the fact that his girlfriend is leaving, or that he's been plagued with visions that may lead to her death. This was a little sluggish, but near the end it really started picking up, and I was really surprised with the way she ended it. 4/5

Leaving by Ally Condie
I can't leave a review, as I haven't read this one. Not because it's bad! Only because, from glancing at the first couple of paragraphs, I can tell it's set in the same universe as Matched, which I would like to start reading before I read this story. So I'll just come back to this one.

At The Late Night, Double Feature, Picture Show by Jessica Verday
When on the run from cannibal girl scouts, the last thing one expects to run into is vampires. In drag. On their way to a Rocky Horror show. But that is the least of Jane's problems. As soon as I heard about this one, I was dying to read it! I myself can take or leave RHPS, but the idea of singing vampires in drag? How does one pass that up? Even if that doesn't appeal to you, there's a very...Frankenstein-y twist at the end. 5/5

IV League by Margaret Stohl
In this world, there are Drinkers, and there are Breathers. And the Drinkers? They're hungry. And snarky. And cruising through Harvard. This one was a fun read, I love snarky vampires that have no shame in their thirst for blood. Especially when they're from backwoods towns that consist of nothing but their kind. 5/5

Gargouille by Mary E. Pearson
A young female gargouille (which I'm taking an educated guess in saying is French for gargoyle) finds herself stripped of her wings and torn from both her love and her clan, and slowly forgetting the memories of all she once held dear. This tale was so very sad, but did have a little shining ray of hope at the end. Gargoyles are something you just don't see in mainstream YA fiction, they'd be a fun addition to the norm. 5/5

The Third Kind by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Jess' sister Kissy has pulses, and they are not to be ignored. After all, several years beforehand, the pulse helped them escape from their home while their parents were murdered. And now those pulses want them to go to San Antonio. This is one of the stories that takes "journey" literally, and it's interesting enough that I would love to see this become her next series. 5/5

Automatic by Rachel Caine
This one I did not read, as I'm not really interested in the Morganville series, but as I have read a couple of the stories before I knew it was a series, I'm sure anyone who likes the series would like the short story.

Overall, worth the $8.99 I paid for it. I love all these YA anthologies coming out, keep `em coming!
I was intrigued by this collection of short stories. My favorite was “Leaving” by Ally Condie, whom I was privileged to hear speak at BYU earlier this year.

“Leaving” is, on the surface, a somewhat typical YA dystopian tale, full of warning and — of course — first love. However, Condie manages to give readers something much more meaningful in her representation of society two hundred years into the future as a civilization that lives in glass domes on an otherwise uninhabitable Earth and looks back to heroes known as the “Beautiful People,” who lived two hundred years before. These so-called heroes are most likely our contemporary movie stars, fashion models, and celebrities, people who smile and shine like actual stars. However, by the end of the short story, Sora—our protagonist—realizes that these “Beautiful People” are both less and more than what they seem They are simply people. Not heroes to be worshipped, but just people. Sora’s realization—and her subsequent escape from the bubble of her existence—takes on both a literal and a figurative meaning. Sora returns to her home never the same, and along the way she discovers truths about her father’s disappearance and about her relationship with Elio, the boy she’s always cared for. This story carries all it needs to be able to connect to both young adults and, indeed, readers of all other ages.
