ABOUT THE AUTHOR
M. C. Beaton is the pen name of bestselling novelist Marion Chesney. The author has written under various names, most notably as M. C. Beaton for her Hamish Macbeth and Agatha Raisin series. The Agatha Raisin novels have recently been adapted into a hit television show starring Ashley Jensen and are available to watch on Acorn TV. She is also the prolific writer of Regency romances, beloved for their wit and historical accuracy. The Poor Relation series, which chronicles adventures of love and scandal at one of one of London’s most popular hotels, has also been optioned for television. Marion has also has written under the names Sarah Chester, Helen Crampton, Ann Fairfax, Marion Gibbons, Jennie Tremaine, and Charlotte Ward. Born in Scotland, the author began her writing career as a fiction buyer for a Glasgow bookstore and has worked as a theater critic, newspaper reporter, and editor. Enjoyed reading about the lives and events of these sisters.
I would have liked the book to continue a little longer with the story line; but maybe it continues in the next book.
This is the second installment of the Daughters of Mannerling series. The second time through I had a better idea of what to expect and was not so completely thrown off by the sinister oppression of Mannerling. I was more at ease with this book's tone but I did not like the story as much as the first one. The situation seemed to be too close to that of the first one. Jessica made the same mistakes as her sister before her and Robert was a pale imitation of the Viscount. Barry and Miss Trimble truly made this book. They were fun characters and I eagerly await Miss Trumbles eventual unveiling. The book was written very well and the author spared no punches when dealing with her characters. I eagerly await the third volume. Very highly recommended for all Regency Romance lovers.
This series is well written. You can't help but feel sorry for the family, loosing everything to their father's gambling, but still they prevail.
I love this Daughters of Mannerling Series. The characters and storyline are both captivating and reader friendly by one of my favorite authors, Marion Chesney. I look forward to completing this series in chronological order.
Loved the Daughters of Mannerling have read two so far. Enjoyable how the sisters get what they want from each other. Use all their wiles on the men they chose or that chose them. All for the love of Mannerling.
Story lines aren't that great, but the characters interesting. Easy good read.
