Eventer Dream Eventing Trilogy Book 1 eBook Caroline Akrill

If you love British humor (Fawlty Towers, P.G. Wodehouse, Cold Comfort Farm) and horse-related books set in the British countryside, this novel is for you! The aspiring eventer of the title, a teenager named Elaine, makes the hilariously imprudent decision to cast her lot with the Fane sisters, a group of struggling, dotty old women trying to run a livery stable. To keep creditors at bay, the Fanes rent out their horses (all of whom are either homicidally unsafe or chronically unsound) and sell various antiques from the corners of their sprawling, shabby, once-magnificent home. As wonderful as the human characters are, however, what I will remember best are the comic yet realistic descriptions of the horses, particularly the "mare-who-sometimes-slipped-a-stifle" and "the Comet." I do agree with the other reviewers that there is a great deal of British slang in the book--I'm an American who lived in England for two years and I'd never heard of a shooting brake. But I enjoyed learning the new terminology and would recommend this book to anyone, particularly Anglophiles like me who love (and write about) horses.

Eventer Dream Eventing Trilogy Book 1 eBook Caroline Akrill Reviews

Absolutely enjoyed hos book. Am now reading book 3!
I actually love this book and it's sequel, if only the horse info was more correct. I got a little lost when I figured out that a horse they were using for cross country was 40 years old! But still, a fun read and good characters.
I love this story about a couple of goofy but very honest, funny sisters and the young girl who luckily found them and then had the good sense to hire on and make a great life for herself, enriching them as well in the process. Very highly recommend this
Read this series several times via Unlimited, and ended up buying them as they are just so funny. Obviously written by a well-educated horsewoman. Love her writing style.
What a fun book! I downloaded as something to read on a boring day and it thoroughly captured my attention. The characters were well thought out and so well described you could see them in front of you, even the horses. The story went along at a good clip, no slow parts that you were hoping to get over and done with. The whole book was a fun read beginning to end. Looking forward to the next one!
This novel is delightful! Elaine is a driven young Eventing aspirant thrown into a wild scenario worthy of stories like GOODNIGHT SWEETHEART or DAD'S ARMY. The humour is quintessentially British, the writing crisp and literate and the story full of fun. I look forward to the rest of this trilogy.
This is a great book. I was sort of conflicted by another book of hers "Flying Changes" - I liked parts of that book and disliked others, but "Eventer's Dream" is fantastic. The characters are colorful (the horses included), the plot is sort of unique, the setting is interesting, and there is a lot of humor. I was thrilled to find out that this is apparently the first in a series, but it is a great book all on its own and it doesn't feel at all unfinished.
